Structure formed from the follicle cell layer of the egg chamber after the egg has been released from the ovary (Deady et al., 2015). The posterior follicle cells begin to be lost prior to ovulation so that only the anterior and posterior follicle cells are behind left as a mass in the ovary to become the corpus luteum (Deady et al., 2015).
