It is a large circular sensillum, with a high profile and a distinct discontinuity between the dome and socket. It is around 9 micrometers in diameter. Note that several references use the term 'giant sensillum of the radius' (e.g. Palka et al., 1979, and others use the term 'giant sensillum of the dorsal radius' (e.g. Huang et al., 1991). For consistency, we adopt this latter usage.
