obsolete adult dorsal cluster neuron
ID: FBbt_00005899
Adult atonal-expressing neuron with its soma located dorsally in the cell body rind region between the optic lobe and the central brain (Hassan et al., 2000). Its dendritic arbor innervates the ipsilateral lobula and its axon projects to the contralateral optic lobe via a supraesophageal commissure (Hassan et al., 2000; Langan et al., 2013). In the contralateral hemisphere, some cells innervate the medulla and others innervate the lobula (Langen et al., 2013). There are approximately 22-68 of these cells per hemisphere (Linneweber et al., 2020). The level of asymmetry between the populations of these neurons in each hemisphere can influence walking behavior (Linneweber et al., 2020).
Commissure appears to be great commissure based on comparison to Ito et al. (2014) - FBrf0224194 - https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1373-1705. Obsoleted as this is equivalent to LC14 FBbt:00100486 (Wu et al., 2016 - FBrf0234700; Fenk et al., 2022 - FBrf0255173).
