Pm1 [FBbt_00003833]

Proximal medullary wide-field amacrine neuron that branches as it enters the proximal side of the medulla and forms broad terminal arbors, with mixed pre- and post-synaptic terminals, mainly in medulla layer M9 (Fischbach and Dittrich, 1989; Morante and Desplan, 2008).

Neurotransmitter determined to be acetylcholine based on Cha-GAL4.7.4 driver (FBtp0014830) expression and anti-ChaT staining (Varija Raghu et al., 2011 - FBrf0212356), but scRNAseq data assigns as GABA based on Gad1 transcripts and lineage (Konstantinides et al., 2022 - FBrf0253187). EM also predicts GABA (Nern et al., 2025 - FBrf0262545). Nern et al. (2025) split this into 3 subtypes (Pm1, Pm5, Pm6), which seem to have small differences in layer and column spans.
