ventral cervical muscle 25 [FBbt_00058825]

Ventral cervical muscle that connects to a more posterior medial region of the sternal apodeme than muscle 26 (Miller, 1950; Rivlin et al., 2004). There is one of these muscles on each side, innervated by a single motor neuron (Koenig and Ikeda, 1989; Gorko et al., 2024). Its motor neuron arrives via the cervical nerve and forms a branch for each of the six muscle fibers, with each branch bifurcating to run anterior-posterior along its fiber (Koenig and Ikeda, 1989).

Adult Muscle

Ventral cervical muscle that connects to a more posterior medial region of the sternal apodeme than muscle 26 (Miller, 1950; Rivlin et al., 2004). There is one of these muscles on each side, innervated by a single motor neuron (Koenig and Ikeda, 1989; Gorko et al., 2024). Its motor neuron arrives via the cervical nerve and forms a branch for each of the six muscle fibers, with each branch bifurcating to run anterior-posterior along its fiber (Koenig and Ikeda, 1989).

Based on sternal apodeme attachment posteromedial to muscle 26 and innervation via cervical nerve, this seems to correspond to SC-RE in Gorko et al. (2024).
